chapter 1 blog Bai Chenguang

After reading Chapter 1, I deeply understand how Internet technology can change human society. In a modern society full of material needs, everyone lives to satisfy their selfish desires, and only a few human civilization promoters are thinking about how to develop human culture further. The 21st century is a century of electronic digital. Fortune elites with a lot of money hire digital talents for commercial creation. In this process of social development, many public humanities issues have emerged. The four crises that appear in this article are the issues that I am mainly studying today. In simple terms, digital proverbs encounter four emergencies (ideological, psychological, moral, and spiritual).
In my opinion, the most severe crises are psychological crises. “Zuckerberg’s Facebook was mentioned in the article. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized his company’s long-standing social mission, positioning himself as an authority on the “personal, emotional, and spiritual needs” we all share (Zuckerberg 2017). Facebook, he wrote, is well-positioned to cultivate social structures necessary for the moral validation, personal development, and a sense of purpose that are prerequisites of a “healthy society” (Zuckerberg 2017).” Through my simple analysis, I believe that Zuckerberg combines the essence of modern social software with the principles of human social communication. Before developing the software, they conducted in-depth investigations into the way that people communicate with each other and their psychological activities. The reason why Facebook has won the support of users is that this software caters to the nature of human communication. But the crisis problem pointed out by the professor healey is also obvious, and electronic proverbs do contain severe psychological issues. I am a Facebook user from China, and I have found many psychological crisis issues.
In China, we can only connect to Facebook via VPN. First of all, this does not meet one of the principles of Facebook creation. Secondly, many net users were forcibly deleted by Facebook after expressing free opinions on Facebook. This practice violates the right of free speech of netizens. Here is an obvious example. Many Chinese netizens have spoken about the Hong Kong independence incident, but these passionate words have been permanently deleted. I analyze this incident from the perspective of rhetoric. Facebook’s unreasonable behavior has caused many citizens to have a crisis of trust in free speech, and this crisis is also the product of psychological problems.
